PSU Football Overwhelmed by Endicott College
Beverly, Mass.—Endicott College was able to remain unbeaten, stopping Plymouth State University's momentum in dominant fashion last Saturday afternoon at Endicott in NEFC Boyd Division action. The Gulls won 49-0.
The win pushes Endicott to a perfect 7-0 record overall and 4-0 in the NEFC Boyd Division, while Plymouth State falls to 4-3 overall (2-2 in Boyd Division).
Endicott senior running back Mike Lane broke a school record, running over the visiting team and collecting four touchdowns. He finished the game with 147 yards rushing, contributing to the home team's 508 yard total offensively. The Panthers offense was shut down by the Gulls' senior defensive end Kevin Eagan who led his team with 13 tackles and two interceptions. Endicott's defense was able to hold PSU to only 125 yards.
The Panthers let up 35 points in the first half, including three second-quarter touchdowns for the Gulls, yet PSU's defense never gave up. Senior Christian Mulcahy (Norwich, Conn.) had eight tackles (five solo) throughout the game, while also recording an interception, his fifth in the last three contests, in the first quarter when he snagged a pass from Endicott senior quarterback Phil Konopka. Junior Ray Boulay (Keene, N.H.) stopped more Gulls points from being added when he blocked a field goal attempt in the third quarter.
PSU's offense was led by senior tailback Chad Croteau (Weare, N.H.) who gathered 44 yards on ten carries. Junior Andrew Foglia (Montauk, N.Y.) was right behind Croteau with 34 yards rushing for the Panthers.
Plymouth State hopes to get back on the winning track when they travel to face Western New England University in Boyd Division action on Saturday.
