Alpha Phi Sigma Funds for a Good Cause
The criminal justice honor society, Alpha Phi Sigma, held a fundraiser to raise money for the winners of the CJ Book Scholarship. Due to the honor society's hard work and dedication to the event, 1st place winner of a racial profiling essay contest will receive $500 and 2nd place winner will receive $250. The event was held at Biedermans Deli last Thurs., April 5 from 7-9 p.m.; however, early birds beat the anticipated crowd and full bar.
Raffle tickets were sold at the door, 1 for $1 or 5 for $3 and bar specials included 22.5 oz blue moon for $5 a glass with $3 refills and the glass is yours to keep.
Trivia, being the main event, was set up on the big screen with categories such as sports, music, and naturally criminal justice facts dealing with amendments and rights. First place trivia winners received a built in beer koozie Keystone sweatshirts, yep they're just as efficient as they sound, and beer logo corkboards went to the 2nd place trivia winners.
Following trivia, the honor society closed their event with the raffle. First place raffle winner received Boston Red Sox tickets. Some other raffle prizes included a Sam Adams cooler, portable beer chairs, corkboards, and a grill.
Senior and Secretary of Alpha Phi Sigma, Kyle Vaughan states that his favorite part of the whole event was "probably watching trivia, I spent so long piecing together information to keep participants attention and definitely enjoyed stumping people while we're at it."
Overall the night was a great success with the assistance of the Biedermans crew. The event was for a good cause and attracted a considerable crowd. Vaughan wishes to "thank everyone for all their support and also to remind CJ majors to keep their eyes open for a mock oral board coming late April. We will have some chiefs from local areas coming to show us what to expect when going through a police oral board."
