Real Sports Talk with E$

I just sent my mother a text message completely out of the blue telling her how much I truly care about her, as I really don’t think I have ever done. I did that because she truly does mean a lot to me, and every now and then, you gotta tell people how much you care about them. Some people will take that sort of stuff to heart (like my mother will), while others will laugh at you behind your back because they clearly don’t feel the same about you. I try not to associate myself with the latter, because they just destroy your morale. The point of this intro paragraph, tell people that you care about, that you do truly care about them, because who doesn’t like to make someone’s day?

I’m not really sure why I kicked off this column with that this week, but I felt like it was necessary to do so (and yes, I actually spelled ‘necessary’ correctly there). As I told my partner in crime Matt Ormsbee earlier today, “I like people that show emotion, regardless what that emotion is.” Emotion is what allows you to develop character. Emotion allows you to be comfortable in your own skin. Don’t ever let anyone take your emotion away, because that is how you became who you are to this day.

On to some sports, and the world that is football. Whether it be the NFL, or the NCAA, there is some sort of astonishing thing that seems to come out every day, whether it be how much of a clown Jameis Winston is, or how another idiot is destroying his career in the NFL. I find it interesting how the autograph allegations against Winston appear that they won’t go away, while Todd Gurley has fallen away from these talks. Both of these players were accused of signing autographs for money, which is a big no-no in the money hungry NCAA. Georgia has decided to suspend the running back Gurley, while Florida State continues to let Winston play. Georgia is being smart by not letting Gurley play while the accusations/investigation is going on, but Florida State is too tunnel vision minded for their own good. Winston has been accused of doing a number of worse things than Gurley, such as stealing, yelling stupid things in the FSU union center, and a sexual assault complaint. What happened to those players and athletes that people use to be able to look up to, and appreciate? A few bad apples ruin it for everyone, and people like Winston, Ray Rice, Aaron Hernandez, Barry Bonds and Tiger Woods.

In the NFL world, as I have said before, watch out for the Indianapolis Colts. They appear to be getting on a roll, with the only thing that seems like that will stop them are themselves. Andrew Luck is an absolute beast, Ahmad Bradshaw is playing out of his mind, and the defense is coming off a shutout of Cincinnati last weekend. Another team that has stood out, are the Detroit Lions, as they came back from a big deficit to defeat the New Orleans Saints last weekend. I have long been a Lions fan from the days that they had Joey Harrington (I have the jersey to prove it), and I had a feeling that they were going to let that game slip away. Luckily for Detroit, they were able to score two touchdowns in the last few minutes of the game for a huge win to get their record to 5-2.

In other Irrelevant (though I find interesting) sports news:

-Whenever Peyton Manning hangs the cleats up, how long will it take the next quarterback to eclipse his touchdown mark?

-San Francisco Giants in six games.

-I will never understand how wide receivers in the NFL can drop passes that hit them right in the hands.

-Still waiting for ol’ Gordon Ceasar to get his new helmet wrap for the PSU hockey season. The pictures that he showed me of it are badass, but I am sure that it will look even better in person

-Shout-out to Ryan Curtain for scoring his first collegiate goal against Johnson State last week. Nice job doc!

Non-Sports Info of the Week

Rant of the Week- I can’t think of anything that is really “cheesing” me off right now, so I guess that is that.

-Was told by bad-boy Mike Economos that I was a “beaut” for giving him a shout-out two weeks ago, so that’s that.

-Shout-out to my grandfather for getting a Facebook. Couldn’t believe that my dog got a Facebook, but after John Duffy got one of those, I believe anyone could have one now.

-So the Women’s lacrosse team played three Division II schools about two weeks ago, and kicked all of their asses pretty easily. I was surprised as to how well they played, and it led “Dad,” AKA Sean Gleason, to say that one of the records that the team might break this season is the most wins in a season. I sure hope you are right Sean (FYI, I will miss the tailgates between now and February).

-Officially have the Ragged Mountain/Pats Peak ski pass for the 2014/2015 season, and I cannot wait for the ski season to start.

-12:47 A.M.

-Could have sworn that I saw a couple of snowflakes in Plymouth last weekend, to say I was excited would be an understatement.

-Had semi-real talk with Ormsbee earlier, and it made me realize how much I will miss his company come the spring. Luckily, ol’ Nina Weinstein will be around to continue to laugh at the stupid jokes that I come up with.

-Love seeing ol’ Steve Lanciani just kicking life’s ass down in Virginia. He was an awesome older meteorology major that I learned a lot of little crap from.

-Intrigued to meet my sister’s new dog that she got over the summer. Seems like a pretty awesome dog, but after all, what dogs aren’t?

-Thank you for letting me keep my sanity, Heather Janssen.

-Hope Toyota Camry legend Miles is doing well down in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. I still use his ‘Scottish’ accent to this day to throw people off.

-I am writing this article in The Clock office as usual, and of course, it is dark and I am listening to music. Why I state this is because I have to walk back to my apartment soon, and I have a cut-off sleeve shirt, and shorts on while it is in the upper 30’s. Might be a rough one (Oh, wait, I’m E$).

-When myself and Tommy Silva get angry at things and we are in our apartment, we like to play Grand Theft Auto. It really helps.

-Very disappointed in Mary Cann that I didn’t get a picture/video of Pepper or Lucy last week while she was home.

-If you happen to know who Gail Carr is, you know how awesome she is. If you don’t, you should truly meet her. She is such a good person that will help you become successful in whatever you major in at Plymouth. She is going through a little bit of a rough patch, but Gail, you are AWESOME in my book. Thanks a ton.

-Ol’ Tyler Cote is always one of the first ones to read this, as he has a smartass comment to follow this up. Thanks for always reading this, and being my friend TC, you are the man. Can’t wait to be with you and MC soon enough (hopefully).

-I told everyone who had liked my status for my last column that if they had liked the Facebook post of it, I’d give them a shout-out. Needless to say, they all got one.

-Watch for a badass PSU hockey preview in the next issue of The Clock.

Real Talk with Eric- These nice, fall days aren’t around all the time. Enjoy this warm weather while it is still around, as it will be in the teens soon enough.

‘Til two weeks from now, I’m outta here…….
