PSU men's lacrosse loses in LEC semifinals to Keene State
The Plymouth State University men's lacrosse team fell in the semifinals of the Little East Conference Tournament on Thursday, May 6 to Keene State College by a score of 16-4 as their 2010 season came to an end.
PSU defeated UMass Dartmouth in their quarterfinal matchup by a score of 15-12, but had no such luck against their in-state rivals from Keene.
With the loss, PSU finishes their season with an overall record of 8-8 with an LEC record of 4-3. For PSU, it was their best record since the 2008 season when they went 12-7. This year's team did improve on last year's record of 7-9 but they had the same record in the LEC as last season's team at 4-3.
PSU sophomore Teddy Akriviellis scored two goals on the day while seniors Logan Irish and Brett Zebrowski each notched a goal as PSU closed out their 2010 season.
PSU would use two different goalies on the afternoon as junior Kevin Hayes started the day for the Panther's and gave up 11 goals while making 11 saves. Sophomore Jack Tyo would play roughly 21 minutes as goalie as he gave up five goals while making three saves.
KSC would get off to a fast start and would never look back as they scored three goals in the first period and would add five more goals to their total in the second period. PSU would score a couple of goals as well in the second period but that would not prove to be enough to blunt Keene's first half onslaught. KSC opened up the second half with an 8-2 lead as they would add to their lead in the third period by scoring an additional three goals to take an 11-2 lead into the final period. PSU would add their last two goals of the season in the fourth period, but KSC would score five in the final period as they moved on to the LEC Championship game.
Junior Andrew Erikson would lead PSU in scoring on the season as he posted 38 goals, and 21 assists to pace the Panthers on the year. Senior Brian Giroux also had a stellar season as he scored an impressive 36 goals while adding 15 assists.
PSU will have to rebuild on the fly next season as 13 of their 25 players on the roster this season were seniors. PSU will have loads of youth and inexperience heading into next season as they hope their underclassmen will step it up and fill the shoes of this season's seniors
