The Plymouth State Men's Lacrosse team defeated UMass Boston on Saturday, May 1 by a score of 18-6 at the Clark Athletic Center Field to clinch a home game in the first round of this week's Little East Conference Tournament.

With the victory, PSU has now won five of their last six games as they look to continue their hot streak going into postseason play.

PSU ended the year with an overall record of 7-7 and an Little East Conference record of 4-3. With the victory, PSU clinched the three seed in this week LEC tournament.  PSU finished behind Keene State College and Eastern Connecticut in the LEC, but edged out Western Connecticut, Salem State, and UMass Dartmouth for the three seed.

Sophomore Teddy Akriviellis led PSU on the day as he scored four goals and added four assists while junior Andrew Eriksen had a solid day as well, as he scored three goals and had three assists.

Senior Brian Giroux also had a stellar day for PSU as he added two goals and two assist and his classmate, Steve Engel, scored two goals and contributed an assist.

PSU got it going early and often as they took an early 4-1 lead into the second period and added five more goals to pad their lead to 9-2 at the halfway point.  They would go on to score nine more goals in the second period to run the final to 18-6.

PSU junior Kevin Hayes pitched in a solid effort as goaltender as he made eight saves in 45 minutes of play as he was credited to the win.  Sophomore Jack Tyo also had two saves in roughly seven minutes of action.

With his two goals on the day, Eriksen capped off a great season with 34 goals, 19 assists, and 53 points; all of which are team highs.  With his 34 goals on the season, Eriksen record the second most goals scored in a single season by a PSU player since 2002.  The only other player to score more goals in a single season during that time frame was current senior Brian Giroux; who scored 39 goals his sophomore year in 2008.

PSU will now turn to the LEC conference tournament as they look to win their first ever LEC title.  PSU's quarterfinal game will be home against UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, May 4 at 3:30pm.  During the season, PSU played UMD once and defeated them 15-4 on Saturday, April 24.  If PSU is able to defeat UMD, the semifinal game will be on Thursday, May 6 and the LEC championship game will be on Saturday, May 8.
