Plymouth's Dodgeball Club

"DODGEBALL!" yells Junior Peter Orszagh. Mass chaos ensues, and suddenly, it goes from a friendly environment to college students looking to take out some anger from their daily grind that is school work.

Plymouth State's dodgeball club meets every Monday and Tuesday at 10 P.M. and always features entertainment for everyone and anyone. Both males and females participate in these typically two hour events, and it is always a good time (unless, of course you get hit by some of the kids that throw the hardest, including Corey aka the "Puma", among others).

Steve Swiatlowski, who is currently a sophomore at Plymouth (as well as a two year participant in dodgeball) summed it up the best; "It's a fun time, you are able to make some new friends, and you can let some anger out by drilling people in the dome with a dodgeball." Swiatlowski, who used to be a shortstop in high school, is one of the more unconventional players, as he is able to throw the dodgeball sidearm, over the top or even underhand.

I started talking individually to Orszagh (who is currently the President of the dodgeball club), and I found out that the club has been around "for quite some time. I had someone come up to me the other day that has a dodgeball shirt that was from the Plymouth State College days." Besides stating the longevity of the club, Orszagh agreed with Swiatlowski, saying that "It is a good time, and everyone comes away with a few good laughs, as well as meeting new kids that they have never met before."

This club is one that isn't only for upperclassmen, though, as first year students Mark Lambert and John Lesage are regulars in the HUB's basketball courts, which is where the games take place. Lambert is one of those kids that runs around a lot and is a pain in the neck to get out, while Lesage might be the hardest thrower, next to the "Puma". Lesage, who played baseball and football in high school, enjoys the competitiveness that ensues. "It's always a challenge when new kids come down here to play because you never know what to expect from them. The biggest kids can end up not being able to throw that well, while there are kids that are 150 pounds soaking wet that have a cannon for an arm."

As mentioned, the dodgeball club meets every Monday and Tuesday night at 10 P.M. For only $3 a semester, you are able to hit random kids with a dodgeball (more or less a kickball) and not have to worry about getting in trouble over it. This is a club that I think a lot of people are unaware of, but is totally worth it to spend the $3 for the whole semester to make new friends, and as Steve Swiatlowski put it, "the more the better!"
