Plymouth Welcomes Jim Hundrieser

Over the summer, while many students were enjoying the weather and being out of classes, Dr. Jim Hundrieser took over as Plymouth State's new Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management (VPSAEM).  Dr. Hundrieser , who has extensive experience in student affairs, has previously worked as the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Marymount Manhattan College in New York, as well as being the Vice President for Student Development at Lynn University in Florida.

While already having an impressive work history in student affairs, another asset Hundrieser brings is that he is already familiar with Plymouth State. He graduated from Plymouth with a Masters in Education in 1990, and worked as a residence hall director in both Belknap and Smith halls during his time at Plymouth.

When asked about how his return to Plymouth was going, Hundrieser said that it's been "Better than I could have imagined.  I knew the staff and faculty would be warm and welcoming, but having the students back on campus is what really makes it great."

As part of his job as VPSAEM, Dr. Hundrieser works closely with the offices that affect students on a daily basis, such as Dining and Residential Life, University Police, International Student Services, and others that relate to student affairs. He also oversees the Admissions Office, helping to develop ways to attract new students to Plymouth.

While many departments under Hundrieser's office are going strong, he is aware that there is work to be done. "We did not have as many students enroll this year as last year.  We need to do more to reach out and connect with prospective students through electronic and other communication strategies."

However, that is not the only thing Dr. Hundrieser is looking to work on in the future. He is looking forward to working with students on a myriad of issues. "One student asked how we could harness the energy created in the recreation center and find a way to generate the electricity needed to operate the HUB.  I loved that idea. Other students have shared ideas of how we could build more sustainability programs and others want to enhance our traditions and student life on campus."

Dr. Hundrieser is not only excited to work with the Plymouth State community, but he's also excited to be working with the Town of Plymouth as well. "I came back to PSU with the goal of building upon what we are currently doing and make them better," said Hundrieser.  "I am looking forward to becoming an active part of the community and giving back in service."
