Juried Student Art Show
The Student Exhibition Committee has put on their annual Juried Student Art Exhibition on March. 13, 2012 located at the The Karl Drerup Art Gallery in the Draper &Maynard building on campus. "The Karl Drerup Art Gallery always does a fantastic job in hosting this particular event", stated Winner of Best in Class D, junior Noelle Stillman. Any artwork including 2D, 3D, and other works are included in the art show, "I enjoyed the variety of sculptures and paintings, I also enjoyed how all of the artists were more than happy to talk to the viewers and introduced their work it was very professional and friendly. " said sophomore Nicole Crandle. The artwork displayed in the exhibit range from huge wall sized paintings, puzzling sculptures, and unique photographs. "I added a lot of facial details to the face of the girl- all the marks and dots- because I think that is unique, and to me, uniqueness is beautiful. I really don't like the photo shopped models of magazines and the culture- it's all fake and very fabricated," said Winner of best in class B, sophomore Edward Fleming. The show consists of different art level categories, A, B, C, D, and E. Level A artwork consists of work done in 1000 level art classes, B are the 2000 level courses, C are the 3000 level courses, and D are the 4000 level courses. Level E is any personal work done by an artist. "My work, A Wrinkle in Time, is a frottage print. There is no specific imagery within the piece to convey a particular message. This allows the viewer to develop his or her own interpretations on what the image could mean. This creates a unique experience for each individual viewer. One person's interpretation of the work is no more correct than another," said Stillman. If any artwork was not accepted into the Juried Student Exhibition the works will be exhibited in the Plymouth State University Salon des Refusés, which will be held in the Collins Gallery, "This year's juror, PatriciaCarega, selected works that I feel demonstrate the strong artistic ability of our department as a whole. I am proud to have my works hanging along side our other skilled students," said Stillman. "There were a lot of real good works in many different mediums that got in," said Fleming. The show will come to a close on April. 7, 2012. It is free of charge to enter the show, so feel free to stop by the gallery and look around at the many different pieces of artwork that talented students at PSU have created.
