As of 9:00 p.m. on Tues., Nov. 6, gubernatorial candidate Maggie Hassan (D) has been deemed victorious in New Hampshire over Ovide Lamontagne (R). Hassan is the second woman to ever be elected governor in the state.

Hassan's victory will keep the state's governorship in the hands of a Democrat, the position being passed down from John Lynch, with whom Hassan worked closely during his four two-year gubernatorial terms in N.H.

Hassan is known for her support of marriage equality, women's health issues, green jobs, Medicare protection, and education. In campaigning, she pledged to reverse the $48 million in annual budget cuts suffered by the University System of New Hampshire last year, cuts which have profoundly affected Plymouth State University.

On a campaign stop at PSU earlier in Oct., Hassan said "we need to freeze tuition for the next two years. This is something I really focus on."
