Fill them bottles up
Within the past year, filtered refill stations for water bottles have been installed in three parts of campus. These filtered water fountains provide clean water in a way that is much more convenient for students to reuse their bottles. The water systems act as a filtered, sensor-activated, water bottle filler and bubbler that also keep track of how many plastic bottles it prevents from being wasted.
The first location to see these new fountains was the Fitness Room in the HUB. Two water stations were installed, one in each room of the center. José González, Coordinator for Recreation Programs, first heard about the water systems at a student affair conference and said, "The students really like to have the ability to fill their water bottles in the fitness room from a water bottle filler." Currently, both water fountains in the Fitness Center have reached well past preventing 20,000 water bottles from being used.
The most recent addition of these fountains on campus has been at Centre Lodge. Janette Wiggett, University Apartments Manager, first saw the water systems when she dropped her children Logan and Cabot, off at Plymouth Elementary School, at the beginning of the year. Wiggett hopes these water refill stations will give the University Apartment students even more of an opportunity to participate in the campus' sustainability efforts, as they already do a great job recycling. While this fountain was only installed in Centre Lodge about two weeks ago it has already saved over 220 plastic bottles from being wasted.
If you are looking to live more sustainably please stop by one of these locations, or in the Prospect Dining Hall to fill up your bottle.
