Comforting Closure to Homecoming Weekend 2012
After a weekend full of fun events, tasty treats, indoor surfing, alumni greeting and Panther supporting, Plymouth State University's Homecoming 2012 concluded with the Jazz Bruch held in the Prospect Dining Hall Sunday morning on Sept. 30.
This brunch served as a great way for students to eat one last meal with their parents before they headed home. It was held late enough in the morning, at 10 am, that students and their families could get up at a leisurely time and really enjoy the morning before commencing their travels homeward.
Senior Amylee Keith, a member of PACE and co-chair of this year's Homecoming Celebration, was on the scene before the dining hall was even open just to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible. PACE put quite a substantial amount of effort into this past weekend's events. According to Keith and PACE advisor Kyle Dooley, Homecoming wouldn't have been possible without PACE's many dedicated volunteers.
"Pace's general members are so great about volunteering," said Keith. Though there are only five formal PACE positions, Keith also stated that, "Everyone helps out."
Dooley added that even though she is their advisor and on the scene during all the events, "[The members of PACE] really do most of [the work] on their own and let me know when they need help."
Around 10:30 am the Jazz band, whose members consisted of PSU's own Professors, Rik Pfenninger on the saxophone, Tom Robinson on the keyboard, Mike Ross on the bass, Tim Gilmore on the drums, and Jimmy Alba on the guitar began to set up their instruments.
When asked about doing jazz performances on campus, Pfenninger stated that, "We really enjoy playing for the students; they don't really get to hear enough jazz music." Pfenninger also added that, "It's great to get out and play on a Sunday."
The dedication of PACE, the mellow atmosphere of the dining hall on Sunday morning as campus was winding down from Homecoming, and the smooth jazz performed by our very own faculty members made for a great send-off for PSU parents as they enjoyed their meal and said their goodbyes to their college kids.
