Music in flight

Music can play to the emotions the listener has at the time. There are songs for love, made in sadness, songs that are great to dance to or make the listener feel happy. Who says they cannot make the listener laugh as well? The New Zealand based duet Flight of the Conchords does just this. The two band members, Bret and Jemaine, were roommates at Victoria University of Wellington, where they were studying film and theatre before forming Flight of the Conchords in 1998. As the two began to get more and more popular in New Zealand and with their neighbors to the West, Australia, they began to take their music to the TV with appearances on various shows. In 2004, Flight of the Conchords won the award for best newcomer and also performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. In addition to having an imminent music career the two were offered a television show to also be entitled Flight of the Conchords from HBO in 2007. The show has aired for two seasons since its premiere in 2007. The second season is now available on DVD. The show features the two performers as struggling musicians in New York City with only one uncanny, true fan named Mel. Each show features an original song that is based around the plot of the episode. While every song they play is funny, each one has a distinct style. A popular song by Flight of the Conchords, 'Hiphopopatumusmeetstherhymenoceros' is an unconventional hip-hop song. The two have many songs dedicated to ladies such as "Most beautiful girl in the room," but can also jump into a song like the David Bowie tribute song named 'Bowie,' which mimics the musician's style. Jermaine claims that there probably won't be a third season for the two, but hasn't ruled it out of the Conchord's plans. The reasoning behind this is that in the time it takes to write a season for the sitcom they also have to create two albums worth of material for it simultaneously. This ultimately takes a lot more time than creating a single album. The group has won more than five major awards and released over seven albums. Bret and Jermaine have come out with two recordings in 2009. The first is called 'Pencils in the Room,' which is a single the two released. The second, "I Told You I Was Freaky," is a full-length album and reached 19th place in the US and moved up to 7th in New Zealand. This album was released in October. It includes tracks such as the album's title, "Hurt Feelings "and "Fashion is Danger." If Flight of the Conchords sounds interesting, they are pretty easy to find on Youtube or HBO.com and if the genre of comical music is interesting other bands that are similar include. Tenacious D or a lesser-known band named, Instant Sunshine.
