Lady Panthers Fall to Keene State
PSU-31 KSC-63
KEENE, N.H.- The Plymouth State girl's basketball team lost a blowout affair on Tuesday afternoon to rival Keene State, 63-31. The Owls were led by the strong play of Senior Siobhan Carnell who scored a game high 18 points.
As has become custom of the team throughout the season, the Panthers fell into a hole early on, and had difficulty crawling back. With only four minutes gone in the first half, Keene State was able to open up a 12-1 lead. The Panthers were not completely quiet, however, as a Kaylee Towle three pointer and a pair of Bry Bennett free throws kept PSU within shouting distance. Despite a strong effort from Plymouth, Keene carried a 30-16 advantage into halftime.
Much like the first half, Keene came out strong in the second with a 12-2 run. Despite Plymouth's best efforts, the Owl's maintained a 20 point advantage throughout the half and coasted to an easy victory. Keene used a 49-29 rebounding advantage to limit any Panther second opportunities.
Senior Katie Seraikas led the Panthers were her seven points and game-high eight rebounds. Also contributing were Towle and Bennett, who each netted six points.
Carnell was not the only Owl who played well, as Keene State got strong contributions from Kelsey Cognetta, Christian Wojtas, and Carly Kiernan each finished with eight points respectively.
The loss dropped Plymouth to 0-11 in LEC play and 1-20 overall. The Panthers will travel to UMass Boston on Saturday for conference action at 1:00. Keene state improved to 3-8 in LEC play and 8-13 overall, and will travel to Lasell in a non-conference tilt Thursday night.
