Women's Basketball defeats Castleton; move to 4-0

The PSU Women's basketball team pushed their win streak to four games as they defeated Castleton College 67-43 on Tuesday, November 24 in their home opener at Foley Gymnasium.

PSU is still undefeated on the season (4-0) and is looking to be the first PSU team since the 2001-2002 team to win its first five games of the season. The 2001-2002 team started out 7-0. With the loss, Castleton falls to 2-2 on the young season.

PSU junior forward Amanda Kania led all scorers on the day as she scored 26 points and also pulled in 11 rebounds as she recorded her second straight double-double. PSU senior captain and forward Laura Kent scored 11 points and pulled in four rebounds, sophomore Alicia Doucet scored seven while grabbing eight rebounds. Senior captain Kalie Judd had a solid day as she dished out four assists scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds.

Castleton was led by their first-year student and guard Tarryn Bolognani, who scored 16 points and pulled in six rebounds. Castleton junior forward Megan Johnson scored nine points couple with eight rebounds.

It was one of those days for Castleton as they shot an abysmal 19% from the field. PSU on the other hand shot an impressive 46% from the field. PSU was dialed in from 3-point range as they hit seven of their 17 three-point shots, that's 41%. Castleton shot only 1-8 from downtown. Although PSU had the edge in most statistical categories, Castleton did shoot more free throws than PSU. PSU only shot 19 free throws compared to Castleton's 32. PSU would make 12-19 (63%) while Castleton made 22-32 (68%).PSU came out of the gates strong and never looked back. PSU opened up a 16-point halftime lead and would go on to out-score Castleton by eight more points in the second half.

PSU will look to win their fifth win in a row and open up the season with a 5-0 record when they take on Colby-Sawyer on the road on Tuesday, December 1 at 7:00pm. After traveling to Colby-Sawyer, PSU will open up a string of home games at Foley Gymnasium here in Plymouth. The four game home stand will include Salem State on Thursday, December 3 at 5:30pm. UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, December 5 at 1:00pm. Lyndon State on Thursday, December 10 at 5:30pm, and Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, December 12 at 1:00pm.

Castleton will look to recover on the road against Middlebury College on Tuesday, December 1 at 5:30pm.
