Social Work Club Stitching Up Fundraisers
Plymouth State University has many different students clubs and organizations. These groups hold events of all kinds to show the student body who they are and what they do as well as raise money to do what they do.
The PSU Social Work Club is currently hosting a fundraiser so they can participate in community service projects this year. They are raffling off two handmade quilts that were donated by Plymouth State professor Dr. Lind. Dr. Lind teaches in the Social Work Department and is new to Plymouth State this year. "She has been actively involved with the Social Work Club," said Social Work Club President Paula Davies. She continued to say that Dr. Lind was the one that came up with the idea for the raffle.
The Social Work Club is involved with the local community by supporting the Pemi Youth Center and the Plymouth Regional Senior Center. The club also hopes to participate in a Habitat for Humanity project in Delaware over Spring Break. "This will also be our third time participating in Habitat for Humanity." They will be hosting other events to raise money for their service projects. Davies said, "We do a Christmas party at the Pemi Youth Center, and in the spring we do a dance at the Senior Center."
When asked about what it is the Social Work Club does Davies said, "The main goal of the Social Work Club is to participate in community service projects to benefit the town of Plymouth as well as others. Like I said, we volunteer for a Christmas party at the Pemi Youth Center as well as a dance at the Senior Center. We also do fundraising for our Habitat trip; we are really trying to raise money for this cause to help low income families. We will also be raking leaves off of people's lawns for donations as well we will be selling handmade bracelets at the basketball games starting in December."
Dr. Lind made two quilts to raffle off to help the club raise money. "There's a brown one and a green one," said Davies. They money from the raffle will be going towards the Habitat for Humanity trip in the spring.
The raffle continues through November 22nd and tickets can be purchased in the HUB. Tickets are being sold individually for $2 or three tickets for $5.
