PLYMOUTH, N.H. Plymouth State University's women's volleyball team hosted the UMass Boston Beacons, three-time defending LEC title holders, on Tues., Oct. 23 in Foley Gymnasium, for their last regular season home game. Though not favored against UMB, the Lady panthers rocked their court on Senior Night, and what a sweet night it was for seniors Casey Stoodley and Elissa Morin.

The victory gave the Panthers a win over the heavily favored UMB for the second straight season. While PSU swept the Beacons in Boston during the regular season last year, UMB would ultimately defeat PSU in the LEC championship match. The win moves PSU into a tie for fourth place in the LEC with Eastern Connecticut University, while UMB still holds onto first place by a half game.

Stoodley finished with a match-leading 21 kills Tuesday night as the PSU women's volleyball team came back from two sets down to upset UMass Boston, 3-2, in an intense senior night match at Foley Gymnasium.

UMass Boston took control during the first two sets. The Beacons took early leads, holding on for 25-19 and 25-18 victories. The Panthers, though, would respond and battle back to even the match at two sets with 25-21 and 25-23 victories.

The Panthers had a number of notable performances on the night. To go along with her 21 kills, Stoodly added 13 digs, posting a double-double for the 19th time this season. Morin finished with five kills and three blocks, and Sam Clark and Becca Gosselin finished with 12 and 8 kills respectively. Freshman setter Kirsten Perrotta had a terrific match, finishing with 46 assists to go along with four service aces. Cassie Pelton chipped in with a team-high 14 digs.

Plymouth state improved to 14-16 overall on the season and 3-3 in LEC play. The Panthers will finish up their regular season schedule on Sat., Oct. 27 at Rhode Island College with matches against the Anchorwomen and Worcester State. The loss dropped UMB dropped to 15-8 and 6-1. The Beacons finish their regular season Friday and Saturday at the Emory University National Invitational in Atlanta.
