PSU Football's Struggles Continue Against Salve Regina

Plymouth, N.H.— What looked like was going to be a closely contested game heading into the second quarter, was blown wide open by a Salve Regina offensive attack against Plymouth State Football on Saturday afternoon at Currier Field. The visiting Seahawks tacked on 21 unanswered points to grab the victory over the Panthers, 28-7, in an NEFC Boyd Division game.

            The Seahawks were led by freshman quarterback Bradley Skeffington, who rushed for a game-leading 55 yards, as well as throwing for 77 yards. Skeffington recorded two touchdown passes in the game. Another impressive performance for a first year in Saturday's game took place on the Panther's defensive side of things. Freshman Baylor Conde (Richmond, V.A.) collected ten tackles, the most for the home team.

            Salve Regina struck first with a run by Dan Buonocore with less than four minutes of the first quarter remaining. The score gave the visitors a 7-0 lead that was avenged just a couple of minutes later following a ten-yard touchdown run by PSU junior Andrew Foglia (Montauk, N.Y.).

            The Panthers were stopped offensively by an aggressive Salve Regina defense that held the green and white to only 121 total yards. The Seahawks defensive tenacity was especially evident early in the fourth quarter. Junior defensive end Paul Capaldo (Melrose, Mass.) recovered a fumble on the 13-yard line, giving the home team's offense a chance to score, but the Panthers were unable to get the ball past the 5-yard line against the Seahawks D. "Turnovers need to stop occurring, two Plymouth fumbles resulted in Salve touchdown," said senior defensive back and kick returner Christian Mulcahy (Norwich, Conn.).  "We need to protect the ball as well as continue to improve our tackling on defense."

            Plymouth State University's third loss in a row brings them to a 4-5 overall record and 2-4 in conference. With the win, Salve Regina improves to 6-3 overall (4-2 in NEFC).  PSU will conclude their regular season away from home next week against Curry College, where they hope to finish with a victory, according to Mulcahy "The ultimate goal for the final game is to win. That's personal and team goals."
