Interview with PSU midfielder Caitlin Swanson
1. Tell me a little bit about your back round in lacrosse before you got to Plymouth.
CS- I started officially playing lacrosse when I was 10 years old for the youth boy's team here in Plymouth. The youth program had just been started here by my dad and there wasn't a girls team yet, so I played with the boys! The next year I played girls lax- back in the day when there was no out of bound and you didn't have to wear goggles!! I played at Plymouth Regional High School, and was a captain my senior year. I knew I was going to PSU and wanted to play lacrosse and that there would be a new coach. I met Kristin, became obsessed and now here I am....
2. What was your favorite part of the Dallas Spring Break trip?
CS- Getting to sit in Khloe Kardashian's seat at the American Airlines arena where the Dallas Mavericks play!
3. What has been the best part of the season so far?
CS- WINNING! We are 10-1 and it feels amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4. Being a midfielder, what do you enjoy playing more (between offense and defense), and why?
CS-That's a tough one. I feel as though defense comes more naturally to me, but that is why I love attack so much, because it is a challenge. So I guess it's a tie? That is my favorite part about being a middie; I don't have to choose!
5. Why has this team been so successful this season?
CS- Kristin Blanchette. The time and dedication she puts into this program is unlike any passion I have ever seen before. Her heart and soul is dedicated to this lacrosse team. She has high standards and knows exactly what we need on this team to be successful. She recruits amazing athletes, who are also great people. This team is so close and that is what makes us successful under Kristin's leadership. With her at the forefront of our program, the possibilities are endless. I have complete faith in her and our team. Every single person on the team is working to achieve our goals. The beauty of it is that if one person does not have the best game of their life, she has a whole team behind her that will make sure the job gets done. That is not something that we have seen in past years.
6. Do you have any pre-game rituals? If so, what are they?
CS- Yes! I have to listen to the pregame speech from Any Given Sunday in order to get focused and then join the rest of the team in singing and dancing to our most favorite songs! The key is to become focused first though.
7. What is one unusual talent that any given person on the team has that would surprise people in Plymouth?
CS- Hmm... Marie Lander would give Beyonce a run for her money in a dance off to "Single Ladies".
8. If you were to win the lotto, what would be the first three things you would do?
CS- 1-Pay off my car loan
2-Buy tickets to see Bruce Springsteen
3-Invest the rest to become richer! (donate some too!!)
9. What are your expectations for the team for the rest of the year?
CS- We are going to LEC's and once we win that, we are going to NCAA's and shocking the lax world. This team has something really special and I don't doubt that we can make it to NCAA's, so long as we keep doing what we are doing, play together and continue to trust in the game plan.
10. Do you have anything to say to the Plymouth community?
CS- We have a home game against Rhode Island College (also Senior Day!) Saturday, April 28th at 3pm, see you there! And thank you for your support.
