Both Men’s and women’s cross country teams placed in the top ten for schools competing in the first invitational of the year, held at the University of New England, in Biddeford, Maine. The women, who placed 9th in last year’s meet, placed two positions higher this year, ending up in 7th out of 16 schools. This year, a pair of freshman led the women, with Lora Giguere (Tolland, CT) and Haley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) finishing 25th and 28th, respectively. Both women ran at a pace just under 7:12/mile.
On the men’s side, freshman Sam Brunnette (Newport, VT) and Warren Bartlett (Loudon, NH) both placed in the top five as the team finished 4th overall out of 17. Brunnette ran the 8-kilometer course in a PSU record-breaking time of 27 minutes, 40 seconds, and was just under a minute behind the eventual winner of the race. Both Brunnette and Bartlett posted remarkable finishes for the team, as the
Plymouth cross-country team is so young in establishment. Plymouth’s remaind three runners all posted in the top 50 out of 164; Cam Paveo (Methuen, Mass) finished 33rd, Kyle Saunders (Hudson, NH) finished 44th, and Cameron Atherton (Rowley, Mass) finished 47th.’
The cross-country teams travel to their next invitational Saturday, as they travel to UMass Dartmouth.
