Coming off of a homecoming victory for the Panthers, PSU found themselves bringing rival Bridgewater State into town.
To start the game, Bridgewater continued to show their ability that they showed in their previous game, which was in impressive victory over UMass- Dartmouth.
Bridgewater State managed to rattle off three touchdowns before Plymouth could get on the board. The first score was a 22-yard pass from Danny Higgins(Manahawkin, N.J.) that found Travis Bassett (Littleton, MA) which capped off a 6-play, 59- yard drive after just three minutes of play. Next, Bridgewater found the end zone at the 7:17 mark in the first quarter with a ten yard run from Alex McLaughlin (Littleton, MA) that finished an 85-yard drive, and then with 14:18 left in the second, McLaughlin found the end zone again with a 17- yard run. All extra points were good and Plymouth found themselves in a 21-0 hole to start the game.
PSU was able to get on the board immediately following this score when, on the first play of the drive, freshman QB Zack Edwards (Brookfield, MA) found Mitch Banuskevich (Milford, NH) on a 62-yard pass play that took only 11 seconds. The two-point conversion failed and the score was 21-6.
Bridgewater answered back with a drive that took a little over four minutes and was capped off by a one-yard rush from Higgins. The extra point was good and the score came to 28-6 with 9:44 left in the first half.
The next score came from Plymouth State and was a 19-yard pass from Edwards to Jake Becker (Portsmouth, NH), which brought the score to 28-12 after a failed PAT and the first half came to a close.
The first score put up in the second-half was by Bridgewater State at the 3:43 mark in the third and came off of a 19-yard pass from Higgins to Michael Viola (Wrentham, Mass.). The PAT was good and the 6-play, 48-yard drive brought it to 35-12 in favor of Bridgewater State, and the game continued to go in their favor in the final period. With 14:51 to go in the fourth, C. Williamson (North Easton, MA) scored on a 15-yard run, and then with 9:52 left, a 30-yard field goal by Liam Murphy (South Hadley, MA) brought the score to 45-12.
With 33 seconds left in the game, Plymouth State was able to find a way to put some more points on the board with a 3-yard run from Matt Ordway (Walpole, MA) which brought the score, which would hold up as the final, to 45-19.
Both teams play MASCAC games come next Saturday, as PSU visits league-leading Framingham State University for a noon game and Bridgewater State returns home to host Westfield State University at 4:00 p.m.
