After beating Worcester State in their last regular season match 5-4, Plymouth roared back and won in straight sets, 5-0, to advance to the Little East Conference semifinal round. The third ranked lady Panthers relied upon big play from Sunny and Zara Jakubas (Califon, N.J.), who stepped up big in the home match.
PSU swept all three doubles matches, and got the two key singles victories. Zara Jakubas and freshman Irene Ireme (Concord, NH) started things off, getting a win in No.1 doubles by a score of 8-1. Sunny jakubas and junior Rachel Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass) won No. 2 doubles 8-4, and Kelly Corson (Exeter, NH) and Peyton Smith (Stuttgart, Germany) won No. 3 doubles 8-3.
Both Jakubas sisters won their matches while giving up a total of two points apiece, respectively. Zara’s No. 1 singles went by a tally of, 6-1, 6-1, and Sunny Jakubas went 6-0, 6-2.
The team travels to Bridgewater State, the #2 seed, in hopes of getting to the LEC championship.
