Field Hockey Falls Short in LEC Playoffs
Field Hockey Falls Short in LEC Playoffs
Weston Atwood
For The Clock
The Plymouth State Panther field hockey team finished their season 11-6 (9-2 in conference) led by top goal scorer Nicole Burgess (Mexico, ME) and senior defender Eileen Crutchfield (Boscawen, NH.) With this record the Panthers entered the Little East playoffs as the number one seed.
When the Panthers traveled to Westfield State they were held scoreless in the first half, but took the victory with three goals in the second half two from Burgess and one from Kialah Reeder (Enfield, NH.) They would next travel to St. Joseph’s in Maine where they would lose despite scoring two goals from Reeder and Kendal Lariviere (Dover, NH.) The final regular season game was a senior day affair at New Hampton. The ladies said farewell to their lone senior Eileen Crutchfield, but unfortunately fell short in the game 3-2 with the goals coming from Reeder and Burgess. The team than hosted eighth seeded Fitchburg State in the LEC conference tournament. Despite being the number one seed the ladies were upset losing the contest 1-0 and being eliminated from postseason competition.
Despite the loss the team has a lot to look forward to for next season. With only one senior graduating, it’s not hard to see this team getting back to the LEC tournament next year as a high seed. And it’s not impossible to see a LEC Championship in their future.
