In the 93rd minute, three minutes into overtime, Petro Masumbuko (Manchester, NH) scored the game-winning goal against UMass Boston that put the Panthers on top of the LEC. The Panther’s topped UMass 1-0 at the end of a very long and well played game.
The match was well fought very well on both sides from the first whistle to the last. Felix Lindeberg (Stockholm, Sweden) recorded nine saves on the day while the keeper for the UMass Beacons, Alfolnso Rosales, recorded just two saves on the day. Rosales, the starting goalie, played the first half before being replaced by Estive Sosa. Both goalies, in their senior year, have had equal time in net for the Beacons, but Sosa never got his hands on the ball. Two of Lindeberg’s saves were shot inside the 6-yard box but he still managed to make the saves. With this win on Saturday, Lindeberg improved to 9-3-1 in goal and with the help of his fielders, handed Estive Sosa of UMass his first loss of the year moving him to 5-1 on the season. The Panther’s defense put on an impressive show preventing the Beacon’s from scoring throughout the games’ entirety, and all 26 of UMass Boston’s shots were heavily contested.
After winning the game against the UMass Beacons, Plymouth State University Men’s soccer became the co-champions of the regular season title, for the Little East Conference along side Eastern Connecticut. This year’s regular season title is the title first that Plymouth State Men’s soccer has received in over ten years. The earned the #2 seed in the LEC playoffs.
