Lady Panthers Fall to Keene State

Plymouth State University’s Women’s Basketball team lost to Keene State on Wednesday February, 10th at Foley Gymnasium. Although PSU played right along with the Owls in the first half, only having been down 27-25 at the half, Keene managed to pull away, winning with a final score of 67-54.
The game started off with Ace Lawrence(Middletown, Conn.) hitting back-to-back jumpers for PSU, one from mid-range and then a three pointer, and then Kayla Wyland (Melrose, Mass.) would score the next nine points for the Panthers, with a three-pointer and then three consecutive layups. The Lady Panthers held the lead after the first frame, 14-12.
Keene State opened up the second quarter with a three-pointer by Ryanne Williams (Norwell, Mass.) and then PSU responded with an 8-1 run featuring lay-ups from Kailyn Aguiar (Acushnet, Mass.) and Leah Swanson (Atkinson, N.H.), two free-throws by Lawrence and a jump-shot by Madison Beatrice (Newton, Mass.).However for the Panthers, Keene would strike back with an 11-3 run and not look back. They held the Lady Panthers to just 11 points in the third quarter, going into the fourth with a 50-36 lead. PSU hung in the game late, outplaying the Owls 18-17 in the final frame, but it was not enough to chip into the Keene State lead, and they would lose by 13 points.
Lawrence was the top scorer for PSU, racking up a game-high 20 points. Wyland added 13 points of her own and led the team by grabbing six rebounds. Senior Taylor Perry (Simsbury, Conn.) also hit double digits with 12 points.
For Keene State, Junior Stephanie D’Annolfo (Tyngsborough, Mass.) scored 13 points and came down with a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Sandi Purcell (Hudson, N.H.) was their top scorer with 16 points, and Senior Kelsey Cognetta (Stamford, Conn.) added 10 more.
Plymouth dropped to 6-16 overall and 0-11 in LEC play, and Keene State added to their win column, improving to 19-3 overall and 8-3 in the Conference.
