Men’s Lacrosse Fourth Place in LEC Standings

At 3-7 the men’s lacrosse team is not having as a good a season as they could be. However, despite the losing record they are still fourth place in the Little East Standings with their strong 2-1 conference showing. The team is led by top scorers Phil Pichel (Hopkinton, MA), Mac Tetreault (New Durham, NH) and Pete Allen (Newbury, NH) their offense has accounted for 86 goals and an average of 32.2 shots per game. Defensively they have 103 caused turnovers and 293 ground balls. 18 of those caused turnovers and 52 of those groundballs belong to junior Adam Haversat (Cape Elizabeth, ME), who has been a defensive juggernaut for the Panthers this season.

The first “home” game at the Holderness school on a breezy but sun drenched day. The Panthers played host to the UMass Boston Beacons. Panthers got an early lead off of a goal by Colin Claflin (Pembroke, MA). The Beacons would get the tying goal later in the quarter and then score two more in the second to take a 3-1 lead into halftime. Haversat would pick up a goal in the third quarter and in the fourth Plymouth would get a goal each from Pichel and Cam Cormier (Auburn, ME). Despite the great effort he Panthers would come up a goal shy and lose their first conference game this season 5-4.

The next game was a trip to Coast Guard Academy where Plymouth State would have a three-goal lead after the first quarter thanks to Cormier, Pichel and Cody Carlson (Simsbury, CT). Coast Guard would pick up two in the second to only trail one into the second half. Despite goals from Jake Burns (Salem, NH) and Alex Croatti (Brunswick, ME) the Panthers would be outscored 5-2 in the second half and fall in the contest 7-5.

Looking to end their two game skid, the boys headed to Salem State University. After going down 1-0 early Tetreault picked up a crucial tying goal. The barrage of offense would continue from there, as Pichel would get two and Allen would net one to give the Panthers a 4-3 lead after the first. In the second quarter Tetreault, Clafflin and Bobby Savoia (Plymouth, MA) would each get a goal and give Plymouth the 7-4 lead into halftime. Plymouth would get outscored 4-2 in the third quarter giving them only a one goal lead heading into the fourth. But they would shut Salem down scoring five unanswered in the fourth quarter with Pichel getting one and Tetreault and Allen two apiece giving the Panthers a 14-8 victory.

They will have played Keene State by the time this article has gone to print. They will host Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, April 23rd and then Western Connecticut on senior day Friday, April 29th with an away game at Southern Maine nestled in between on Tuesday the 26th.
