For the Clock
There seems to be a trend starting in Plymouth's soccer program. Just a day after the Men's Soccer team notched their first shut out of the season, the Lady Panthers extend their streak to five games with a shut out to start the year. This one coming off a commanding 5-0 win against the Cadets of Norwich University.
Senior forward, Emily Crawford (Whiteman, AFB(MO.), quickly got the scoring started in the 2nd minute, when she received a perfectly placed corner kick from senior midfielder, Hannah Kallis (Sanford, ME). The Lady Panthers did not look back after that, scoring three more times before the end of the first half; two from sophomore defensive midfielder Kate Martin (Keene, NH), and the other coming unassisted from senior captain, Leah Swanson (Atkinson, NH). Martin was assisted by Crawford and then by freshman midfielder Amy Luther (Westerly, RI).
Luther began the second half with a goal of her own in the 49th minute, assisted by senior midfielder, Brooke Reid (Lake Placid, NY). Norwich could not handle Plymouth's dominant defense, only being able to attempt six shots as opposed to Plymouth's twenty eight shots. Senior captain, Annaliese Schmidt (Newmarket, NH) was Plymouth's rock in goal, having a perfect save percentage after stopping five shots on goal. This was Schmidt's fifth shut out on the season.
The Lady Panthers continue their hot start, improving to 3-0-2 as Norwich fall to a 1-3-1 record. The Lady Panthers are away this Saturday the 17th as they visit UMass Boston (1-5-0). Game is at 2 pm at BC High.
