Women's Volleyball Claims a "W" at Home

The Plymouth State Women’s Volleyball team hosted the University of Southern Maine for a Little East Conference matchup in Foley Gymnasium Tuesday evening. The Panthers came out strong, winning the first two sets. After dropping the third set to the Huskies. PSU was able to rally, taking the fourth set and clinching the match 3-1 (25-17, 25-9, 21-25, 25-17).
Junior Claire Sporer (Medford, OR), led the Panthers offensively, knocking down 10 kills. Seniors Dani Tabor (Seattle, WA) and Kayla Wyland (Melrose, MA) followed close behind, with nine kills and eight kills, respectively. Sporer also posted two service aces, trailing just behind sophomore Alisha Flanagan (Milton, NH), who had three. On defense, Sporer led once again with 13 digs, while classmate Brenna Peruch (Cave Creek, AZ) had 12 digs. Wyland and seniors Mikki Taffe (Sandown, NH) and Brianna Wojtas (Salem, NH) combined for 11 defensive blocks. Wyland and Taffe had four blocks apiece, and Wojtas posted three blocks. Junior libero Megan Bailey (Canterbury, NH) led Plymouth with 35 assists in the match.
With the victory, PSU improves to a record of 11-7 overall and 3-1 in the LEC. The ladies are on the road this weekend as they travel to Illinois for the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament. The Panthers will take on Lincoln Christian and Fontbonne on Friday, Oct. 7, and North Central and Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, Oct. 8.
