Men's Hockey Falls to Fitchburg in OT

The Plymouth State Men’s Hockey team fell short to the Falcons of Fitchburg State in overtime on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Hanaway Rink. This coming off of a dominant 10-1 victory over Framingham State in the game prior.
The game started out with both teams unable to score in the first two periods. The first score of the game came within the first 17 seconds of the third period when Panthers Sophomore Matt Volonnino (Hackettstown, N.J.), found the back of the net off assists from Sophomore forwards Ryan Stevens (Colleyville, TX), and Ludvig Steenberg (Stockholm, Sweden). Fitchburg would come back to tie things up when they were able to sneak past a shot into the net with around six minutes to go in regulation.
Fitchburg would go on to score the winning goal in the first minute and a half of overtime. Panther Freshman goalie Thierry Messervier (Montreal, Que), recorded 22 saves on 24 shots.
Plymouth falls to 4-3 on the season, and as they lost their first conference game of the season their MASCAC record drops to 3-1. The Panthers next game was Thursday, Dec. 1st, against in conference foe Worcester State (1-5-1, 1-2-1 MASCAC) at Hanaway Rink. Score was unavailable for press time.
Plymouth then travels to Westfield State to take on the Owls (5-3, 3-2 MASCAC). The start of the game is set for 5:35 p.m.
