Reigning national champions Tufts University shut out Plymouth State at home Sunday, scoring two goals in each half and walking away with a 4-0 victory. Tufts, who is currently ranked number one in the nation, limited the Panthers to just one shot on net.
Senior Jimmy Mansour (Auburn, N.H.) suffered his first loss of the season, making seven saves and allowing four goals on 11 total shots.
It took 26 minutes before Tufts netted their first goal, with the offensive pressure from the Jumbos the staple in the first half. Travis Van Brewer ( Wilbraham, MA.) found Zackary Trevorrow (Honolulu, HI) who beat Mansour to take the 1-0 advantage.
Just four minutes before the half, Plymouth began to win out balls at he midfield and form a semblance of momentum. However, a Calvin Aroh (Glastonbury, CT) cross snuck under Mansour’s outstretched gloves and into the back of the net, giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Just two minutes into the second half, Tylar Kulscar ( Wayne, N.J.) found the back of the net for the first time this season. A ball that was kept in play just outside the six yard box by Brett Rojas (Madison, N.J.) was played right to Kulscar, who froze Mansour and extended the lead to three goals.
Tufts finished off Plymouth at the 50th minute, after a ball that misplayed at midfield found Kevin Halliday (Cranbury, N.J.) one-on- one with Mansour. After touching around the keeper, Halliday finished the scoring at 4-0.
Plymouth has six days to regroup, before traveling to UMass Dartmouth for their Little East Conference opener.
