Men's Hockey Continues Their Triumph
The men’s hockey team continues their winning streak as they continued their dominating season when they rolled through Massachusetts and downed the Westfield State Owls, 5-2.
This was Plymouth’s sixth Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game this season, making their record 5-0-1 and 8-0-1 overall. The lone tie of the season, causing Plymouth a slightly imperfect record was there matchup against Fitchburg State, another MASCAC rival. PSU came back in that game after trailing behind for a while. This game started like that, Plymouth trailing behind for the first time since that game, but it only lasted five minutes until Plymouth came alive. The Panthers would score 3 unanswered goals. Westfield scored in the second period to pull within one, but Plymouth was able to find the surge to pull ahead by scoring two goals in the final period of play.
“I think me and my D-partner, Tim Perron, played a solid game, just like the team. We battled through some adversity at a couple of times during the game, but we found ways to change the momentum to our favor,” Victor Bergstrom (Angelholm, Sweden) commented about the team’s performance for the game overall. “I think it was a challenging game for us. Westfield is a tough rink to go play in and they came out hard. I think that we gradually worked our way into the game, and could control it well in the third period.”
Perron (Northborough, MA) scored one of Plymouth’s 5 goals on the day.
“I think we have to continue to improve every day. I believe what's going to make us strong is how we battle through tougher periods over the season. We have the talent and the skill, it's about how mentally strong we can be when facing adversity,” Bergstrom added. “For myself, my goal is to be consistent throughout the year and help the team to reach our goal, which is winning the MASCAC, and make a run in the National Championship."
Plymouth State’s next game is on Thursday, December 6th at 6pm. They play host to the Gulls of Endicott. This will be Plymouth’s last game until January 4th, due to the end of the semester and the start of Winter break.
The result of Thursday’s game is not available to us at the time that this article is being written and will not be included in Friday’s printed paper. Keep an eye on our website for an updated recap of that game once the result is available.
