UMass Rolls Over PSU
The women’s basketball team went to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth this past Saturday to play in the Little East Conference match-up. It was a rough day for the team, losing 44-72 and continue a three-game losing streak rut they are in. This now moves the team’s record to 5-3 over and 0-2 in the LEC.
The game wasn’t in complete control of the Corsairs as Plymouth started strong with a big first possession. UMass did go on a 9-3 run after that, but it wasn’t long until Cassidy Emerson (Concord NH) help tie the game with three minutes left in the quarter. But UMass had the last say with another big run to put them back on top. PSU got as close to being within four in the second quarter as they went back and forth in the beginning. Brittany Roche (Londonderry NH) hit a pair of free throws to bring the team back win single digits again but UMass once again came out to increase the lead, ending the half with a buzzer beater.
The second half went downhill for our Panthers, being shut out for the first part of the third quarter as UMass went for a 15-0 run. They would be able to pull with 20 at some points but it wouldn’t get below that.
Jess Conant (Canton ME) led the team in points, 12, and also added four rebounds and two steals to her stats.
The team played again on Wednesday against Southern Maine and lost a close game, 60-51.
They will play one more time before the holiday break this Saturday as they host Eastern Connecticut. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. The women’s team will return January 3rd to host Westfield State.
