Women's Hoops Trounced on Senior Night, Prep for Playoffs Begins
PSU-42 WCSU-74
PLYMOUTH, N.H.- The Plymouth State girl's basketball team dropped their regular season finale 74-42 to Western Connecticut State University Saturday on senior night from Foley Gymnasium.
Similar to recent games, PSU found themselves in an early deficit. However, the Panthers were able to crawl back from a 18-5 hole, closing the margin to 23-20 with 8:53 remaining in the half. Plymouth would manage just one more basket in the half, though, as WCSU upped the ante and held a 40-22 advantage at the half.
Plymouth's cold streak would continue well into the second half, as the home team was unable to manage a basket until 12:53 was remaining in the game. Despite a much stronger final ten minutes, WCSU coasted to an easy victory, leading by as many as 26.
The lone bright spot for Plymouth was the strong play from senior Krystin Corliss, who had a game high 16 points to go along with three assists and five rebounds. Also playing well was Taylor Perry, who finished with nine points on 50 percent shooting from the filed while knocking down all four free-throws.
The loss dropped Plymouth to 0-14 in the LEC and 1-23 overall finishing as the eighth seed. However, new league rules require all teams to participate in postseason play, giving Plymouth a quarterfinal opportunity Tuesday night against first-seeded Southern Maine.
