PSU Power Rankings

By Weston Atwood: For The Clock

The school year is slowly winding down, but the Panthers of PSU are still rolling on the fields. Baseball and softball have finally had their home games and both lacrosse teams continue to be strong. Here are the third edition of spring power rankings:

#1 Women’s Lacrosse (Last Issue: 2) – Women’s lacrosse jumps into the top spot after sporting an 11-3 record and are undefeated in conference, and therefore have taken the number one seed into the tournament. They are also currently on a seven game winning streak.

#2 Men’s Lacrosse (Last Issue: 1) – Men’s Lacrosse is still playing strong with an 11-2 record. Unfortunately, their big loss came against conference rival Keene State to drop their chances of a number one seed in the little east tournament. Don’t get discouraged though, if there’s any team that can bounce back it’s this one.

#3 Softball (Last Issue: 4) – The Panther softball team has caught fire! They are currently only two wins away from a .500 record, and they have a winning conference record of 7-3 winning 11 of their 15 games since last issue.

#4 Baseball (Last Issue: 3) – The team is having a really rough time finding consistency in their play. They can’t seem to sweep any of the double headers they play either splitting or losing both games. They also don’t have a big power threat in their lineup and must resort to small ball to score their runs. While you don’t need homeruns to win ballgames, a lot of the teams they play use it.

Now let’s take a look at the top five Panther athletes so far!

#1 Senior Aly McDonald (Hull, MA) – MacDonald has 69 points this season and 50 goals, she has also dished up 19 assists and has an amazing 63.3 shooting percentage, no surprise she passed the 200 point plateau earlier this season.

#2 Senior Molly Gleason (Haverhill, MA) – Gleason has 96 draw controls and is top ten all time in the country for NCAA Division III, as well as 18 goals and nine assists. She’s also caused 19 turnovers.

#3 Senior Shannon Connerty (Nashua, NH) – Connerty has 43 points, that includes 24 goals and 19 assists. She also went over the 200 point mark earlier this year.

#4 Senior Chris St. George (Marblehead, MA) – St. George has played 737:17 minutes and is tied for third in the country with a save percentage of 6.52 and has 150 saves.

#5 Sophomore Katie Kennard (Concord, NH) – Kennard has been very successful for the resurgent Panthers, with a .410 average, 32 hits, 2 homeruns, and 29 RBI’s.

Honorable Mentions

Senior Cody Gilchrist (Tyngsboro, MA) – Gilchrist has pitched 38 innings with an ERA of 3.55 and fanning 41 batters.

Freshman Abrie Davis (Amherst, NH) – Davis has 21 hits including 5 homeruns and 19 RBI’s for the softball squad.

Sophomore Adam Haversat (Cape Elizabeth, ME) – Haversat has picked up 55 groundballs and has also caused 18 turnovers.
